Trojans take down Warriors

Staff writer

Marion got off to a quick start Tuesday at Hillsboro with a 1-0 lead in the first inning. But that would be the last of the Warriors offense.

Hillsboro tied the game 1-1 in the second inning after Jackson Kleiber got a base hit that brought Aiden Hurst in to score.

In the third, Dickinson smashed a double, before Haslett backed him up with a double of his own. Hillsboro led 5-1 after three innings.

The Trojans would go on to score one more time, after Haslett brought Dickinson home again. The game finished 6-1.

Kadon Mercer was the Warriors’ starting pitcher. He pitched the complete game.

Nash Dickinson was the starting pitcher for Hillsboro. Zayne Haslett relieved him in the fifth inning. Dickinson moved to first base but was brought back on the mound to pitch for the last out of the game.

Hillsboro was host for Marion not only for a varsity game but also for a junior varsity game. Every player on both teams was able to get playing time.

Earlier, in their final home games of the season Friday, the Warriors split two with Inman, losing the first 12-9 before winning the second 11-10.

“Friday, we found a way to get one from Inman,” Marion coach Roger Schroeder said. “Our group showed a lot of competitiveness to come back from being down five in the last couple of innings.”

As for Hillsboro, the Trojans were unable to steal one Friday from Hoisington, losing both games at home, 11-5 and 10-7. The first game stretched into extra innings.

Hillsboro will be back in action Friday on the road against Nickerson.

Marion will be on the road Friday to play Sedgwick.
