Two teachers get extended contracts
Extra pay will be figured into 2008-09 contract
Marion High School teacher Lucas King and Marion Elementary School counselor Kris Burkholder each received extended contracts Monday with unanimous votes from the Marion-Florence USD 408 board of education.
Burkholder was given a 10-day extension and King a 15-day contract.
Burkholder, whose position is new at MES, was given the extra days because Leiker said she has additional duties before the start of the year and after the end of the year.
King was given the contract because his class was building a house during the school year, and he worked on the house the equivalent of 15 days during the summer.
King had to do so because the class finished just 80 percent of the house during the semester.
The extra money for King and Burkholder will be their daily rate of pay multiplied by 15 and 10 respectively.
