USD 408 accepts roof repair bids

Staff writer

USD 408 school board members gave the nod Monday to bids for roof repairs and routine services.

The board accepted a $13,385 bid from Stanfield Roofing to put an overlay on a leaking roof over a hallway at the middle school. The existing roof is the original from when the building was constructed.

Additionally, the board renewed the district’s contract with OPAA Food Service Management, which ran the breakfast and lunch programs during the current school year.

“Even though there have been some challenges throughout the first year, there have been some significant overall benefits to the district and for the district food service program,” superintendent Lee Leiker said.

Marion Elementary School will be the scene of summer Vacation Bible School, since board members granted a Community Bible School Committee request for the use of the facility June 6-10.

In other business, the school board agreed to hire several new faculty members for the 2016-2017 school year.

They include:

  • Jana Nordquist, district nurse;
  • Randy Skiles, high school math, engineering and robotics teacher, middle school head football coach, high school assistant girls basketball coach, and ninth grade sponsor;
  • Monica Leihy, high school Spanish teacher;
  • Simon McKee, middle school social studies teacher, high school assistant football coach and middle school head girls basketball coach;
  • Emily Overton, elementary teacher; and
  • Tyler McMichael, elementary teacher, high school head wrestling coach and middle school head wrestling coach.
