U.S. Department of Agriculture loans and grants are available for home repairs and renovations, including construction of storm shelters and safe rooms.

The agency’s loan and grant program for single-family homes can finance improvements that remove health and safety hazards for owner-occupied homes.

Other eligible repairs and improvements include installation of energy-efficient windows and insulation, heating and cooling systems, roofing, and siding; ceiling and roof repairs; and replacement of water and waste-disposal systems.

Applicants must meet income guidelines and own the home they occupy.
