Utility cutoff moratorium ends

The state’s cold-weather moratorium on utility cutoffs ended Saturday.

Residential electric and natural gas customers behind in their bills can see their service disconnected if they don’t contact their utility company to arrange payments.

The cold-weather rule applies from Nov. 1 through March 31 each year. Failure to make payment arrangements or to follow an established payment plan may result in service disconnection. Reconnection may require payment in full.

Customers with questions about how much utilities may require that they pay to continue service on past-due accounts may contract that Kansas Corporation Commission at (800) 662-0027.
