Vickie Lynn (Campbell) Kaempfe, 72, Marion, passed away Saturday at Newton Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 16, 1947, in Ellsworth, a daughter of Jack L. Campbell and Donna F. (Ulrich) Campbell.

Vickie worked as a police dispatcher in Goodland, oil field dispatcher in Oberlin, college recruiter in Salina, and a highway construction engineer for Kansas Department of Transportation in Marion.

Vickie always enjoyed her kids’ athletic and school events. She never missed a football game, track meet, or wrestling tournament.

She always enjoyed cooking for her family and going on family trips to Colorado, and Wilson Lake in Russell County.

She had a very close relationship with sisters Caroline and Lynette and brother Jack. She would spend hours on the phone with them every weekend, just catching up on the week’s happenings and what was going on in their lives. Vickie was the oldest of the siblings and always made sure she did everything she could to take care of them.

Vickie and Bill loved Christmas. They have been collecting Christmas decorations and lights for years. They have been putting up outside and inside Christmas lights and decorations for years at their home on Marion County Lake. Each year, they would get lines of cars coming by to see their decorations. They would serve hot chocolate and Christmas goodies to the people coming by to view the lights.

Vickie also enjoyed cooking and baking, and in her retirement volunteered preparing and delivering meals for Marion Senior Citizen Center. She also volunteered at the Marion food bank.

Vickie and Bill were active at Marion Lutheran Church. Vickie loved her family.

She had two great-grandsons, Westen, Gannon, and a third due Nov. 5.

Vickie and Bill were married for 54 years, and on their 50th anniversary they took a cruise with family to Belize, Rattan , and Cozumel to celebrate.

She courageously battled cancer for four years and left this earth with her family close. She loved and she was loved.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, led by pastor John Werner at Our Savior Lutheran Church. Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, Marion, is serving the family.
