Virgil M. Meyer, 93, died Oct. 20 at Abilene Memorial Hospital.
He was born March 8, 1917, near Carlton, to Jesse and Thirza (Jones) Meyer.
He was a World War II veteran, he served in the Navy.
On Nov. 8, 1947, he married Faith McBoyle.
He was a farmer and stockman — he owned and operated Virgil Meyer Elevator in Carlton.
Three sisters, Idelle Ade, Lola Beemer, and Betty Sexton and three brothers, Milton, Albert, and Glen “Buck,” preceded him in death.
He was a member of Carlton Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Faith, and daughter, Mona Koop, of Abilene; three brothers, J.W. of Salina, Karl of Omaha, Neb., and Fred of Gypsum; and four grandchildren.
Services were Monday morning at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Abilene, with the Rev. Mike Keating officiating.
Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery, rural Carlton.
