Volleyball to wrap up regular season

The Lady Trojans lost to Great Bend on Thursday but turned around and won against Emporia that same night.

“Once October hits, the season really starts to fly,” coach Sandy Arnold said. “We play a lot of matches in two and a half weeks leading up to sub-state. These matches are very important to us not only for seeding at sub-state but also for us to continue to gel as a team.”

Savannah Shahan leads the team in kills per set and total blocks.

Zaylee Werth has the highest hitting percentage for the team at 0.261, as well as most digs per set.

Kingzley Ratzlaff leads the team in serving aces.

“They’re opportunities for us to focus on the little things that will make a difference in postseason play and for us to work on areas that need improvement,” Arnold said. “It is our hope that the strength of the teams that we play in this stretch will help prepare us well for post season play.”

The volleyball season is winding down and Hillsboro will be hosting its invitational this Saturday.

The tournament boasts some state ranked competition and traditionally strong volleyball programs.

The volleyball season ends on Tuesday in Sterling. Sub-state tournament actions will be Oct. 21.

Marion

The Warriors tied Ell-Saline 1-1 on Thursday at home, winning the first match 2-0, but then dropping the second match 2-1.

“I’ve seen some really good things out of these girls at different times,” coach Keri Collett said. “I’d really like to see us come on strong these last two weeks.”

Grace Hett leads the team in almost every category: kills per set, hitting percentage, digs per set, serving aces, and aces per set. Kenna Wesner leads the team in total blocks, 23.

The Warriors will be on the road Thursday in Lebo to play both Peabody-Burns and Lebo.
