Local law enforcement have been investigating a recent report of a wild mountain lion in Jex Addition. Someone took a photograph of what was thought to be a cougar or mountain lion cub. The photo was reviewed by the local resource officer with Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks who determined the “cub” was a domestic house cat.
This newspaper ran a photo several weeks ago from a reader who took a photo of what appeared to be a mountain lion from her kitchen window. The photo was out of focus — sounds like Big Foot, doesn’t it — and far away but it definitely looked like a big cat to me.
But then again I’ve seen a mountain lion in Marion County.
I believe there are big cats in the area and why we haven’t seen the remains of them is beyond me. Why hasn’t one been clipped by a car like a deer or caught drinking from a pond? But then again, when I watch our housecat slink around quietly I suppose a cougar could do the same thing.
Anyone who sees one of these animals, call us. Have a photograph? Bring it in and let us scan it or send it to us through e-mail. We’ll run your story and your photo.
