The Warriors baseball and softball teams added a few games on the road Friday against Herington. The boys won both, but the girls let two slip away.
The boys beat Herington 8-7 and 19-2. The first game was a JV match-up, but the second was a varsity game.
Kevon Jones was on the mound for Marion in the varsity game and was credited with the victory.
Each Warriors scored at least one run in the varsity game with Kadon Mercer, Carter Darrow, and Jameson Looping scoring three each.
“Finished the regular season winning four out of our last five, and I feel like we’ve been playing and competing better for the past couple of weeks,” coach Roger Schroeder said.
The boys’ team will travel Thursday to Cottonwood Falls for the first round of regional play.
“Chase County is a tough opponent that we have seen often in the postseason over the years,” Schroeder said.
Marion’s girls let two games slip away against Herington, losing 16-14 and 15-14 Friday.
“While the night ended in two losses for us, we played the best softball we have all year,” coach Jayden May said. “We took both games into extra innings and competed with intensity, and I am incredibly proud of the growth this team continues to show, not only in our skills, but also in our leadership and teamwork.
“The girls stayed composed under pressure, communicated well, and continued to battle until the very last out, and while the results may not have gone our way, these games showed just how much progress we have made as a team.”
Softball regional seedings have not been posted; however, the girls expected to play Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday.
Jason Brown is listed as the seeding manager and Marion softball will be in the Class 2-1A Regional II bracket.
