Marion’s girls placed first and boys second out of nine teams Thursday at Cottonwood Falls.
“We had another good track meet overall in Chase County,” coach Shaun Craft said.
Nevaeh Jones won triple jump, and Kate Wessel placed second. Madisyn Hulett won discus, and Brylee Smith placed second.
Caileigh Johnson won pole vault and Hailey Harshman placed second.
The girls relay team won the 400 and 800, and the boys relay team won the 100.
Wyatt Soyez won the 200-yard dash, and Tripp Peterson placed second. Eli Klenda won the 1600, and Maria Carlson won the 800.
“We had several personal bests or close to it in the field events and on the track,” Craft said.
Marion traveled to Halstead Friday and Tuesday to Goessel.
Goessel
Sophomore Athena Funk set a new school record last week as the only competitor in girls pole vault at a Peabody-Burns meet at Goessel.
She needed three tries to clear the bar at 8 feet, tying her personal best. The bar then was raised to 8 feet 6 inches, and she successfully vaulted over it on her second attempt, tying a 19-year-old Goessel record.
The bar then was moved to 8 feet 7 inches to set a new school record. She cleared on her third attempt.
Not only did she win in pole vault, she also placed second place in the 100-meter dash and fifth in the 300 meter hurdles and helped the 4x400 relay team to a victory.
Goessel will travel to Solomon this Friday and be home for its own meet Tuesday.
Hillsboro
The Trojans will be competing Friday at Halstead and Tuesday at Hesston.
Centre
Centre will travel Thursday to Council Grove and on Tuesday will stay within the county lines and compete at Goessel.
