Ryan Jones earned a top-10 finish, and three other Warriors won medals Thursday at the Halstead cross country invitational.
Jones and his Marion High School teammates took seventh place, while Camille Christensen, Jaclyn DeForest and the Warrior girls’ team took sixth.
Christensen and DeForest were the top MHS girls’ finishers in the 4k taking 21st and 22nd, respectively.
On the boys’ side, Jones ran the 5k race in 18:01, while Louis Holt earned the final Warrior medal with a 16th-place finish and a time of 18:31.
“Ryan had a better race this week. He led our boys’ team,” head coach Bethany Carlson said.
Warrior Michael Kirkpatrick was absent from the boys’ race, leaving Andy Shipman (27th), Brandon Meierhoff (59th), Derek Stuchlik (82nd), and Max Wagner (83rd) to fill out the rest of the team.
The Warrior girls had enough runners to register team points for the first time since the first meet of the season at Abilene.
Christensen ran for the first time since that meet, and was just .59 seconds ahead of DeForest with a time of 17:48.
Senior Amanda Richmond ran for the first time since Abilene as well, taking 52nd.
“Our top two runners are not back at full strength,” Carlson said of Christensen and Richmond. “We hope to have them there in the next few weeks.”
However, DeForest’s placing helped her earn her fifth medal in as many meets this season.
“Jaclyn continues to run strong,” Carlson said.
Between DeForest and Richmond were Anna Lauring (39th), Bridget Lundy (42nd), Taylor Harms (48th), and Jessie Taylor (51st).
