Marion cross-country ran swift enough to earn several individual medals Sept. 22 at a meet at Marion Country Club.
“The weather was wonderful, and it was a fantastic afternoon,” coach Rebecca Hofer said. “We ran very well as a team.”
McKenzee Remmers and Colin Williams were Marion’s top placers. Remmers placed fifth in the girls’ varsity race at 22 minutes, 54 seconds. Williams came in fourth at 19:23 in the boys’ varsity race.
Tyler Arocha and Meggan Frese also earned varsity medals. Arocha placed 14th in the boys’ race at 20:07, while Frese came in 11th in the girls’ race at 24:10.
A.J. Arterburn, Shyla Harris, and Sam Fugitt also earned junior varsity medals in a girls’ race, while junior high runners Bethany Grimmett and David Sawyer earned medals in their respective races.
Hofer said Jarrett Johnson, Arocha, Frese, Arterburn, Fugitt, and Grimmett came way from the meet with new personal records.
“The runners who didn’t get a personal record or a medal still ran great races,” she said. “I hope to see us all continue to improve.”
This was also the last home meet for seniors Brittany Hett, Harris, and Remmers, Hofer said.
“It has been an honor coaching them,” Hofer said. “They’re all wonderful young women.”
The Warriors run next at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Halstead.
