PEABODY-BURNS:   Warriors set for basketball season

3 seniors anchor to lead big junior class

Staff writer

The Peabody-Burns Warriors 2013-14 boys’ basketball team has two returning starters but has six players with varsity experience. The team opens at home on Friday against Chase County.

Seniors Garret Schroeder, Xavier Jabary, and Enrique Palazon will be the team’s senior leadership core.

Schroeder is a returning starter that scored 71 points and shot 63 percent from the free throw line last season. He also had 11 steals and 17 assists.

Jabary returns to the floor with a big presence underneath but has deceptive speed. He scored 35 points last season.

Palazon is a foreign exchange student at PBHS. During football season, he handled much of the kickoff duty.

Braxton Kyle is a returning starter and leads a talented group of junior athletes. Kyle scored 148 points last season and was nearly 50 percent from the field and the line. He had 103 rebounds and 59 steals.

Nicholas Preheim, Vince Newman, Kaden Gibson, Kevin Baatrup, and Deondre Edmonson join the varsity level, bringing a lot of talent. They will add to the depth and challenge for starting positions.

“The returning varsity athletes gained invaluable experience last season due to injuries of starters. They know the system and have knowledge of the tempo of the game” said coach Brian Simmonds, now in his sixth year as head coach of the PBHS Warriors.

Simmonds is assisted by Caleb Good.
