The Warriors, a hybrid team of golfers from USD 408 and USD 398, came in third of four teams with a score of 442 on Tuesday at home tournament at Marion Country Club.

The Warriors missed second place by 21 strokes to Sedgwick, who shot a 421, and first place by 38 strokes to Goessel who shot a 404.

After shooting a 49 on both the front and back, and tying Goessel’s Rhett Makovec at 98 strokes, Marion junior Jade Corona edged out Makovec, placed third, and medaled by scoring a 7 on hole No. 4 (the tournament’s first handicap hole) where Makovec shot an 8.

“Jade is getting better every day,” coach Jim Pohlman said. “His accuracy with his driver has improved a lot lately.”

Peabody-Burns senior Brent Buller also played well enough to earn an individual medal after shooting a 54 on the front and a 53 on the back to take eighth place with a 107.

“Brent has come a long ways,” Pohlman said. “He’s making a lot of corrections and his mental game is improving.”

Juniors Austin Molleker of Marion and Jacob Matz of Peabody finished neck in neck taking 14th and 15th individually with scores of 118 and 119. Both also improved scores from their front to their back nine.

The Warriors tee off next at April 23 at Newton.
