The Marion boys’ basketball team was the lower seed Tuesday night in the first round of the Centre Cougar Classic, but won in top-seed fashion.
The Warriors started fast in a matchup with Solomon High School and never looked back, winning 60-40.
Brett Voth led all scorers with six points in the first quarter, but five other Warriors scored, taking an 18-9 lead at the end of the period.
Marion continued to control the game in the second quarter, outscoring Solomon 15-9 to lead 33-18 at halftime.
The Gorillas played closer to the Warriors in the second half, but could not make up the deficit, losing 60-40.
Timothy Knolla led the Warriors with 15 points. He made three 3-pointers, which were the only threes the team made. Zach Robson and Grif Case also finished in double-digits, with 11 and 10, respectively.
The Warriors, seeded fifth in the tournament, will play the winner of the matchup between top-seeded Rural Vista and Elyria Christian Friday.
