Wayne Windsor

Wayne Wendleton Windsor, 87, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2021 at his home in Haven.

He was born Aug. 22, 1933, in Newton, the oldest son of Kenneth and Mildred (Wendleton) Windsor.

He grew up on a farm west of Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School in 1951.

He was a graduate of Kansas State University and also received his teaching certificate from Emporia State University.

Wayne married Mary Lackey Aug. 23, 1958, and began his teaching career at Clifton as a science teacher and football coach. After five years in Clifton, he moved to Haven and taught for 27 more years. His 1968 track team was undefeated and won a state championship. He also coached two state champion golf teams.

After retiring from teaching, he and Mary became antique furniture dealers.

Wayne is survived by his daughters, Eileen Beavers (and husband John) of Chapman, and Angela Curran (and husband Kevin) of Kansas City; sons, Brian Windsor of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and David Windsor of Hutchinson; sister, Nelda Windsor of St. Peters, Missouri; brothers, Charles Windsor of Cypress, Texas, and Paul Windsor of Wichita; and grandchildren, Tom and Maggie Curran.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Mary.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ott Funeral Home, Haven. Burial will follow at 2 p.m., at Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Peabody.

Family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday at Ott Funeral Home.
