William Carr

A graveside memorial service for William A. Carr, 84, who passed away Aug. 7, 2026, at Hodgeman County Health Center in Jetmore, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14, 2026, at Marion Cemetery. Pastor Maria Grimm will preside.

A memorial service also is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026, at Jetmore United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug, 12, 2026, at Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore. The family will be present from 6 to 7 p.m.

Bill was born Sept. 18, 1941, in Florence, the eldest son of Max Edwin and Wanda Louise (Herzet) Carr.

A longtime resident of Hodgeman County, he spent his career in agriculture as a grain elevator manager, building strong and lasting relationships with farmers he served.

He was a faithful member of Jetmore United Methodist Church, and his faith was an important part of his life, as reflected in the kindness, generosity, and service he showed to others.

Bill had a generous heart for service and gave countless hours to his community throughout his life.

For 35 years, he served with Hodgeman and Wichita County Emergency Medical Services. He also served for many years on the Hodgeman County school board and gave his time to Hodgeman County Extension board, the Wichita County Fair, Journey to Bethlehem, and the Hodgeman County Conservation District board.

Bill always was willing to lend a hand wherever it was needed. Known for his wisdom, steady presence, and willingness to share what he learned, he was a trusted friend and valued mentor to many.

He had a special commitment to youth of his community and took great pride in encouraging and supporting them.

Through his many years of service on the Hodgeman County school board, coaching youth sports, and refereeing sporting events, Bill generously gave his time to help young people learn, grow, and succeed.

His example of faith, service, hard work, and care for others left a lasting impression on those who knew him.

Bill learned carpentry and woodworking from his father at an early age. He shared that skill and tradition with his brothers throughout the years.

More than a pastime, working with his hands was a connection to his family and something that brought him great satisfaction. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time outdoors.

On Jan. 14, 1962, Bill married Rosalie A. Dohner in Marion.

Above all, Bill treasured his family and the time they shared together.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rosalie; daughter Debra Ann Webb (and husband David) of Jetmore; son Douglas William Carr (and wife Christine) of Berryton; and grandchildren Lee Everett Webb (and Jesse Walters) of Denver; Derek Carr (and wife Haley and their children, Breckyn and Max) of Topeka; Allison Carr of McLean, Virginia; Elyssa Carr (and Ian Sharma-Crawford) of Sonoma, California; Luke William Webb of Garden City; and Adrianne Carr of Topeka.

He also is survived by brothers Thomas E. Carr (and wife Marsha) of Wichita; Max E. Carr (and wife Donna) of Andover; James R. Carr (and wife Kathy) of Hillsboro; David A. Carr (and wife Nina), Patrick L. Carr (and wife Ann), and Michael W. Carr (and wife Dawn), all of Marion; and sisters Susan K. Wheeler of Wichita and Nancy C. Day (and husband David) of Valley Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Duane Dean Carr, sister and brother-in-law Jeanne L. and Robert Higgins, and brother-in-law Frank Wheeler.
