William D. Finke II

Bill Finke, 56, of Ellsworth died, Feb. 21, 2010, in Hutchinson.

He was born Jan. 25, 1954, in Newton, to William and Mary Ann (Ratzlaff) Finke.

He was the Deputy Warden at the Ellsworth Correctional Facility, where he had worked since 1988, and owner of Finke’s Retail Liquor Store and Waterworks, which he opened in 1987.

Bill was a former educator and football and golf coach at Ellsworth High School and Kanopolis Middle School. His passions were his wife, his children, attending their sporting events, and hunting.

He was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Ellsworth.

On July 13, 1979, he married Kris Lett in Hutchinson. She survives. Other survivors include his daughters Samantha of Ellsworth, Maggie of Mobile, Ala., and Kelsey of Manhattan; two sons Billy and Ethan of Ellsworth; sisters Debbie Stewart of Maple Hill, Shelley Ruiz of Ft. Worth, Texas, Terrie Finke of Pen Ryn, Pa., and Betty Jo Speck of Paxico.

Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. today at Parsons Funeral Home with a vigil service at 7 p.m.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church with burial following in Ellsworth Memorial Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Ellsworth County Cancer Fund and the Bill Finke Memorial Fund, to be designated later, c/o the funeral home, PO Box 45, Ellsworth KS 67439.
