Winter Fun Fair
back for second year

The Marion County Winter Fun Fair is returning for its second year with new categories.
The fair will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 3 at Marion County Fairgrounds.
Bret Toews, K-State extension agent, said a new grilled cheese sandwich competition would kick off the fair at 10 a.m.A
“The reason we chose the grilled cheese sandwich competition is any kid between the ages of 5 and 18 can produce one on their own,” Toews said.
The extension office will provide grills, and the 4-H members will provide the materials to make creative grilled cheese sandwiches.
Toews asked county commissioners Monday to be judges for the competition. Later, he said, others were lined up to judge if commissioners could not make it.
Last year, the winter fair drew 24 4-H members with 65 exhibits, and Toews hopes for more this year.
“We are hoping to expose Marion County kids to 4-H,” he said.“We offer a county fair in the summer, but thought we should have one in the winter,” he said.
Having a winter fair showcases articles of clothing and food made for colder weather.
“It has a different feel and vibe to it,” he said.
Events include sewing, rocketry for members wanting to make model rockets, crafts and food.
The fashion show will start at 1:30 p.m. with the awards being handed out at 2 p.m.
