Work on wind farm planted seed for new RV park

After being a transient worker on the Diamond Vista wind farm in northern Marion County, Devon Desrochers is doing something to help workers on the Sunflower wind farm.
Desrochers is developing an RV park south of Peabody’s Dollar General.
County commissioners Tuesday approved Desrochers’ RV park request as presented by planning director Sharon Omstead.
Desrochers said he liked Marion County’s farm-town atmosphere so much when he worked on the northern wind farm that he and his wife and two children decided to make Peabody their home.
“We just liked the small farming community,” he said. “I’m originally from Vermont in a very small town.”
The county reminded him of home, he said.
The family bought a house in Peabody 16 months ago and purchased Wiebe Siding east of Hillsboro.
Desrochers does siding and remodeling work through the business.
He plans to install 10 to 20 RV sites and hookups, depending on power availability.
Although housing needs for Sunflower workers was Desrochers’ motive for developing an RV park, he believes the RV park will be used by visitors to Peabody’s annual Fourth Fest celebration and the Florence Grand Prix.
He plans to begin work on the RV park within the next two weeks.
