Wrestlers travel to Colorado

Marion wrestlers attended a team camp last week in Gunnison, Colorado, where they pinned down a 12-4 record to claim ninth place out of 30 teams from New Mexico, Texas, Colorado, and Kansas.

“It was a really positive experience for the kids and the team,” coach Chad Adkins said.

He was proud of the way his team performed, especially because 11 of his wrestlers are freshmen and sophomores.

Incoming freshmen Tyler Palic and Corbin Wheeler each managed to fare well against older opponents. Palic had a 12-4 record, and Wheeler broke even at 8-8. Senior Adam Janzen was undefeated, 16-0.

“It was a nice opportunity to see what other programs are up to,” he said. “We learned a lot of new offensive and defensive techniques.”
