Youth center reopens for fall

Staff writer

Summer is gone and Central Station youth center has reopened. It was open from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday.

“We are still looking for volunteers for the year,” Pam Bowers said. “Shifts are from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and 8:30 to 10 p.m.”

Bowers is in charge of scheduling volunteers to operate the youth center while it is open.

“I made an email contact list to help schedule shifts,” Bowers said. “We plan on being open when there are not a lot of other significant things going on in the area.”

There also will be weekly announcements at Marion Middle School as to the center’s weekend schedule.

Bowers is optimistic that the center will have a good turnout this year.

“It warms my heart to see those big lights on and children playing basketball outside,” Bowers said. “Volunteers can just bring their lawn chairs and have a Norman Rockwell moment watching the kids play and the traffic go by.”

Even if people can’t volunteer, sports drink donations are always welcome, she said.

For more information or to volunteer call Pam at (620) 382-0495.
