Youth faces charges for prank radio calls
Staff writer
A Hillsboro juvenile illegally used a Hillsboro firefighter’s radio Friday morning, Marion County Sheriff Robert Craft said.
Between midnight and 1 a.m., the male culprit called dispatch and ambulance channels several times over the radio.
“You want to go to Cancun?” was one of the non-emergency questions the young man asked a Marion County dispatcher at 12:13.
The calls became more vulgar as they increased in volume.
The dispatcher on duty tried to have a sheriff’s officer meet the youth at Arlie’s Body shop in Marion, but he purposely told the dispatcher a fake location.
At 12:49, the female firefighter called the dispatcher to say, “a boy got ahold of my radio.”
But, the prank calls continued until 1:12 a.m.
Craft said the Hillsboro youth, who he said was a juvenile, could face several Federal Communications Commission charges and a charge of misuse of county property.
