100 years ago

tmas wedding took place Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Reed, north of town. Miss Lenore Reed and Mr. Louis Hildwein were united in marriage by Elder W.M. Berkeley. Both bride and groom have many friends who wish them all happiness and prosperity.

Mr. Jack Holder, of Marion, and Miss Laura Patterson, of Florence, were united in marriage on Christmas day. The ceremony took place at the home of the bride and was performed by Rev. Anderson, of the Marion A.M.E. church. About twenty Marion relatives and friends were in attendance, and about fifty people witnessed the ceremony The bride and groom, accompanied by the Marion party, came to Marion Wednesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Holder will live near the Rock Island depot in a home which the groom had furnished throughout. The RECORD extends hearty congratulations and well-wishes.

Miss Lizzie Apel arrived last Saturday afternoon. A number of friends were at the station to meet her and to welcome her back to Marion. She is in good health although the long journey was of course a hard one. She was seasick practically the entire time coming across the Atlantic.

A number of Marion people made contribution last week for the benefit of the Orphans' Home at Hillsboro. Forty-two dollars was contributed. The Wren school gave eighteen dollars — a generous gift which is greatly appreciated by those having the interests of the excellent institution at heart.

Mr. George Coble met with a serious accident yesterday afternoon. A horse which he was riding slipped and fell on a crossing on Main street and he was thrown off, falling on his face. His nose was broken, and his face quite badly lacerated. His eyes were not injured and it is thought that he suffered no internal injury. He is getting along nicely.

At a meeting of the directors of the Auditorium Association last week the Auditorium was leased for five years, with privilege of ten, to Mr. T.O Kelley. The consideration was $250 a year. Mr. Kelley to pay all incidental expenses. Taxes and insurance to be borne by the Association. Mr. Jerry Forney, the largest stockholder, will, we understand, contest the legality of the action.

Marion schools have a two weeks Christmas vacation this year.

Misses Elizabeth and Winifred Powers and Allen Siebert and Charles Niederhauser attended the wedding of Miss Mary Schimpf and Mr. John Riffel in Lincolnville yesterday.

Mr. Ben Bell has bought an interest in the Cottonwood Roller Mills and will engage actively in the business.

Uncle Sam did not give the rural mail carriers a holiday on Christmas. They will get one on New Years.

The "Social Twenty" enjoyed a party in the country at Miss Jennie Crist's yesterday evening.

The three sons of Mr. and Mrs. Al Carter have been here this week — Jim Carter from Albany, N.Y., Lieutenant Arthur Carter from Leavenworth, and Fred Carter from New York.

Mr. Blurton has sold the Star Café to Mrs. W.S. Hargett. Mr. Hargett came from near Peabody and starts out with evidence of determination to run a first-class restaurant.

Christmas Day was one of the brightest and mildest for many years. It was almost like a spring day.
