Andrew Aaron Bennett, son of Kelli Bennett of Goessel, is the first baby of the new year born at St. Luke Hospital. The 8 pound 5 ounce boy was born at 6:02 p.m. Jan. 2 and was 20 inches long.
Polly Ferrell, formerly of Marion, has retired as an area home economist for Kansas State University Extension. Ferrell now is a popular speaker on a variety of subjects, where her positive attitude and ready smile are charming audiences.
Members of the Regier family met Dec. 29 in the fellowship hall of Eastmoor United Methodist Church for a combination Christmas celebration and a layette shower. Hosts at the Christmas party were Eugene and Marge Christensen, The layette shower was for Carol and Ernie Sweat and Beth and David McKee.
John Wheeler of Marion has been selected to play in the Kansas Shrine Bowl football classic to be held Aug. 1 on the campus of Washburn University. Selection to play in the annual gridiron classic has become one of the most sought after and prestigious honors a Kansas high school football player can be awarded. Only 66 young men are invited each year.
A New York City man, Bill Maher, is planning a biography of the Rev. Emil Kapaun, the Pilsen priest who died in a communist prison camp during the Korean War. Maher is nearing retirement and plans to concentrate his efforts on the Kapaun biography. He is a former newspaper reporter and regular contributor to business and legal publications in New York City.
