A combined 60 years of experience in the United States Postal Service was lost Friday when two Marion County postmasters retired. Harold Triggs retired as Florence postmaster after 28 years and Carl Riggs retired at Burns after 32 years. Triggs also served as postmaster in Lincolnville throughout the 1970s.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Makovec of Ramona announce the engagement of their daughter, Colleen Ann, to Randy Joseph Klug of Herington. The couple is planning a Nov. 21 wedding at St. John's Catholic Church, Herington.
Brandon Gillett and Amy Brunner were named Centre High School homecoming king and queen Friday at Centre's game with Wakefield.
Born this week at St. Luke Hospital were Kayla Marie, daughter of Stan and Jami Williams of Florence and Tristen Renee, daughter of Danny and Tammy Snelling of Marion.
Alan Meisinger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Meisinger of Marion, has been awarded a $500 scholarship at the University of Kansas. He is a freshman in the College of Engineering.
Rachel Janzen placed second in a national essay contest. Her essay, titled "You Do Have A Choice, Say 'No' To Drugs," placed first in the state contest sponsored by the WCTU and was submitted for national competition. A freshman at MHS, she is the daughter of Steve and Phoebe Janzen.
