Almost $3,500 has been pledged by the public to help fund a project to make Marion County Courthouse fully accessible to the elderly and disabled.

The bowling team sponsored by Marion True Value Hardware and Gifts took first place in the 32nd annual Marion Men's Bowling Association handicap tournament this past weekend. Team members are Calvin Ridgeway, John Brewer, Ed Svitak, Dan Sherbert, and Rick Cleeton.

Theron Nienstedt, a senior at Marion High School and the son of Ken and Margie Nienstedt, has signed a letter of intent to play football at Highland Community College.

Troy Schmidt, son of Robert and Bonnie Schmidt, has been working for the past two and one-half weeks in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Schmidt, who is employed by Motorola-Nortel, is installing cell sites for cellular phones.

Marion High School band members who will perform with the CVL honor band March 13 include Ashley Loomis, Pam Kruse, Katrina Hancock, Jennifer Hanson, Kristi Kraus, Lisa Harbison, Renee Goodin, Kris Groening, Aaron Reiswig, Mike Childs, Charlie Helmer, Brian Loomis, Austin Gilbert, Michel Soyez, LeAnn Hiebert, Jason Goodin, Traci Darrow, Brendan Kraus, Shane Turk, Marty Teufel, and Kristine Bateman.

Carrie Soukup of Goessel is the winner of the 1993 Marion County Spelling Bee. Brian Smith of Peabody was first runner-up and Diana Koslowsky of Hillsboro Middle School was awarded the Maude Thompson plaque for third place.
