Construction jobs in Marion County are gearing up after a long, wet winter. Ground work and foundations are underway at Marion Elementary School, where the new physical education building will go up north of the school.

Paul and Kathy Swan announce the engagement of their daughter, Katrina Marie, to Justin Wade Griffin, son of Sam and Diane Griffin of Burns. The couple will be married Oct. 9 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Pilsen.

About 50 students had breakfast at Marion Elementary School Monday, the first day of the program offering breakfast to the students.

Cleo Loomis told Marion Chamber of Commerce members at the regular meeting Friday noon of her recent trip to Africa. Loomis reported seeing a wide variety of animals, took a thrilling balloon ride, and visited a Masai village during her visit.

A native of Buhler heads a weapons inspection team in Iraq. David Franz is deputy director of the United States Medical Research Institute for Infectious Diseases. The 19-member team left March 7 for Baghdad, the 53rd such inspection team sent since the Persian Gulf War.

The Wichita Eagle all-class basketball team, announced Sunday, names Jason Hajek, Centre High School to the Class 1A second team.
