The Salina Journal has named several players in their all-area high school basketball team. Jason Hajek, a junior at Centre, was named player of the year in Class 1A. Luke Utting of Centre was named honorable mention in Class 1A. Scott Dalrymple of Marion was named honorable mention in 2-3A. Ramie Bina and Jill Brunner, both of Centre, were named honorable mention in Class 1A.

Tom Loney, a native of Marion and the Pilsen community, will be ordained April 30 as a deacon in the Catholic church. As a deacon he will continue as a construction supervisor, but will be busy with church responsibilities.

The Centre High School Scholar's Bowl team earned third place March 20 at the state Scholar's Bowl tournament at Madison High School. Team members are Annaliese Ebaben, Angie Vinduska, Diane Rziha, Russ Mueller, and Dale Klenda.

Shirley Bowers, Betsy, Josh, and Kelly Bunnel, Janelle, Matthew, and Abigail Paden, and Mary Beth and Luke Bowers attended the "Hot Dog Matinee" at the Crown Uptown Theatre in Wichita Friday and enjoyed seeing the show, "Sleeping Beauty."

Florence Middle School eighth grade Scholar's Bowl team won the Cottonwood Valley Junior League championship Thursday. Team members Eliza Bennett, Chris Bowers, Courtney Goering, Bryan Bombardier, and Breanne Moore went undefeated to win the contest. The FMS seventh grade team placed third.
