We had a touch of winter the past week. Temperatures began to drop Wednesday afternoon and the clouds rolled in with a strong wind and it began a downpour of rain. This continued on through the night. Sometime during the night, snow began to fall and left a covering of from one to two inches, but melted before morning.

Jane King, RN, of Marion, has been awarded a scholarship by the Kansas Nurses' Foundation. King currently is completing her bachelor's degree in nursing through Bethel College, North Newton.

A crowd of more than 400 enthusiastic spectators attended the Flint Hills Cowboy Jubilee Oct. 4 at the historic Clover Cliff Ranch in western Chase County.

Mr. and Mrs. John Spachek attended the Kansas Teacher of the Year regional awards banquet Sunday at Manhattan. Their daughter, Donna Erpelding, was one of two recipients of the 1993 Nancy Landon Kassebaum awards.

Bob and Prudy Hanson of Marion are planning a trip to help a mission in Indonesia this fall. Instead of preaching or teaching, the Hansons will become "maintenance missionaries" for three week at Irian Jaya, Indonesia.

Jeri Klose of Hillsboro has been awarded membership in the Kansas Association of Realtors Honor Society. The award recognizes professionalism and participation on the local, state, and national level.
