Korean War hero Chaplain Emil Kapaun was honored April 21 at an outdoor Mass at Kapaun-Mount Carmel High School, Wichita. The celebration was in honor of the 50th anniversary of Kapaun's entry into military service.

Anita Hancock's piano students held a recital Sunday in Marion Municipal Auditorium. Students performing were Dusty Sharp, Sara Moffitt, Christi Wilhelm, Kelsey Craig, Karson Craig, Evan Sharp, Joseph Buchholz, Chad Buchholz, Amber Moore, Shannon Hoffer, Lisa Buchholz, Jeanette Rowe, Ashley Harbison, Melissa Moffitt, Randi Barnett, Stephanie Jensen, Carla Carlson, Stacia Williams, Havi Wilcox, Jessica Ash, and Katrina Hancock.

Marion High School graduate Brenda Bina, now running track for Emporia Sate University, won the conference championship Saturday in the high jump. Bina is a junior at ESU, pursuing a degree in biology, in the area of medical records.

Three scholarship recipients were announced Thursday by St. Luke Hospital. Tammy Johnson, a senior at Marion High School, received the $1,000 F.R. Knautz Scholarship; Susan Svoboda, a senior at Centre High School, received the $500 J.A. Wheeler Scholarship; and Diane Rziha, also a senior at Centre, received the $500 St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship.
