More than a foot of rain the past two weeks has left Marion County and its residents wet, bedraggled, and a little frazzled. But there were no tornadoes, though strong winds were reported in some parts of the county.

Daniel L. Baldwin graduated Saturday from the University of Tulsa Law School.

Khanh Vu, M.D. was welcomed to the Marion community with an ice cream social and now the community will bid farewell to him and his family Sunday at a community-wide ice cream social in Central Park.

Several members of the staff of Marion Unified School District received "service to education" awards from the University of Kansas Monday night during the regular board meeting. Board president Roger Williams presented certificates to the following: Marion Ogden and Helen Reznicek, 25 years; Susan Reid and Eileen Hiebert, 20 years; Rosie Plenert, Ed Seaman, Steve Janzen, and Mary Jane Grimmett, 15 years; Don Molleker, Vickie Martens, and Bruce Rhodes, 10 years.

Births announced in this issue include a daughter, Jillian Celeste, born to Rich and Joan Moya of Fort Leavenworth; a daughter, Samantha Jacklyn, born to Brook and Denise Beaston of Wichita; a son, Landon Ray, born to DeLayne and Christine Herbel of Lehigh; a son, Brandon James, born to Chris and Kathy Meierhoff of Marion; and a son, Leslie Olin, born to Richard and Raquel Riggs of Florence.
