Plans have been made for Marion to host 341 riders of the Biking Across Kansas group expected to arrive at Central Park on Wednesday, June 9.

Amanda Janzen of Marion brought home a gold medal Saturday from the state track and field championship meet. Janzen, who graduated May 23 from Marion High School, won the Class 3A high jump competition by going 5'3". Her winning jump was 2" higher than second place.

Michel Soyez of Marion has received a $300 Edith and Harry Darby Memorial Scholarship and Criminal Justice Book Scholarship to attend Garden City Community College for the fall semester. He is the son of Bob and Brenda Soyez of Marion and a graduate of Marion High School.

David Longhofer will have some tough competition in the national contest, as reported recently in the newspaper, coming from a fellow Marionite. Becky Johnson, a teacher in the second language department at Ponderosa Junior High in Klamath Falls, Ore., is another Marion High School graduate who is participating in the Odyssey of the Mind National competition. Becky is the daughter of A.J. and Della Coe of Marion.

Blaine Connor Ragsdale, son of Brent and Lisa Ragsdale of Emporia and grandson of Rex and Margaret Wilson of Marion, was born May 27 at Newman Memorial County Hospital, Emporia.
