Marion Summerfest '93 kicks off Friday and Saturday with two concerts, a volleyball tournament, and chances on a weekend getaway in Las Vegas. Diamond Creek, an up-tempo country band, performs at 7:30 p.m. Friday on Luta Creek Stage in Central Park. Liverpool, which performs music of the Beatles, performs at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Marion High School graduate Amanda Janzen ended her track career in high fashion May 19, winning a gold medal in the high jump at the Class 3A state track meet in Wichita.

Ty Siebert of Emporia, son of Jerry and Micki Siebert of Cedar Point, graduated June 5 from Executive Security International at Aspen, Colo. Siebert's graduation qualifies him as a professional bodyguard to protect VIPs.

The final regularly-scheduled Masses at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Burns, and Holy Redeemer, Tampa, are set for this weekend. Starting July 1, the five parishes in Marion County will be suppressed, and Holy Family Parish will be created. It will follow the borders of Marion County.

Ashley Loomis, daughter of Larry and Randee Loomis of Marion, was named valedictorian of the 1993 class of seniors at Marion High School.

The birth of Emily Diane Hett, first child of David and Diane Hett of Marion, was announced in this week's edition of the Marion County Record. Emily was born May 19, 1993, in Memorial Hospital, McPherson. She weighed 9 pounds 3 ounces and was 21 1/2 long.
