Summerfest '92 kicks off Friday and Saturday with a variety of music and entertainment planned to entertain those who attend the first session of the third season of the event which has become a tradition in Marion.
Triple H Construction was busy this week at Marion Presbyterian Church removing dirt and preparing to pour a new sidewalk which will make it easier for motorists to get out of parked cars.
The Owl Car Café in downtown Marion, one of Marion's oldest businesses re-opened for business Monday under new ownership and management. David Waner and his wife Tena, who will be the manager, purchased the restaurant May 15.
Members of the board of education of Marion Unified School District, meeting in regular session Monday night, again discussed the possibility of constructing a much needed practice gymnasium at Marion Elementary School.
Herman and Iva Unruh left May 18 and drove to Seattle, Wash., where they attended the wedding of their granddaughter, Lani Hoberecht.
Michael Bina, son of Laverne and Harriet Bina of Marion, was honored during graduation ceremonies at the University of Kansas School of Allied Health in Kansas City. A student in medical technology, he was honored for academic achievement and received the June Hull Sherrid Scholarship award.
Approximately 70 students at Marion Elementary School completed the library reading program and received awards at the close of the school year. Those reporting on at least 24 books during the year were Nathan Collett, Sarah Crofoot, Ashley DeForest, Amanda Fruechting, Ashley Gilbert, Ross Groening, Jandice Makovec, Melissa Moffitt, Meredith Moore, Erin O'Dell, Sarah Versch, Havilah Wilcox, and Clark Wildin.
