No major cutting of wheat was reported in Marion County Tuesday, but elevators operators say they expect harvest to be in full swing by the end of the week, if weather permits.
Two sisters from California, Jessica Gilbert and Patricia Wick, have renovated an old family home in Ramona, creating a vacation home and bringing publication to the community.
Fourth of July festivities will again take place this year at Marion Manor. Bennie Holtsclaw will begin playing at 8 p.m. There will be patriotic readings, free lemonade, and fireworks at dusk.
Radios for the Tampa fire crew have arrived and the repeater to boost signals is in operation. All volunteers on the fire and ambulance crews are now carrying radios.
A total of 1,045 volunteer hours was contributed last week to enable local Girl Scouts to enjoy a week of day camp at Marion County Lake. Riding horses proved to be one of the most popular activities, although, according to the junior group, putting fish down each other's shorts came in a close second!
Judy Christensen of Marion was among those who attended the week-long annual convention of the National Society of Tole and Decorative Painters in St. Louis, Mo. For the fifth year, Christensen was selected to teach a folk art class. She had students from as far away as Australia, Canada, and Japan.
Lisa Brose and Bart Brittian, both of Wichita, were married May 22 in a garden setting at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Brose.
