Several Republican candidates for office met with Marion County Republicans and other guests Thursday in Hillsboro. Leading the pack were First District Rep. Pat Roberts and Sen. Nancy Kassebaum.
Who's Who Among America's Teachers has listed several who have recently been honored from this area. Nominations included Eileen Hiebert, Marion Elementary, and Steve Janzen, Florence Middle School.
Six members of the REC Wednesday night intermediate volleyball team won an invitational tournament Sunday at Cottonwood Falls. Team members were Jandee Moore, Patty Carroll, Brian Dannenfelser, Tammy Jirak, Gene Bowers, and Bill Higgins.
Several students from this area were among those awarded scholarships recently at Emporia State University. They include John Griffith, 509 N. Cedar, a freshman, who received the Phi Sigma Epsilon scholarship; Kevin Klein, Tampa, a senior, who received the Business Faculty and Michel Peat Marwick and Lilly Strand scholarships; and Jennifer Makovec, Ramona, a freshman, who received the Walter and Ruth Meyer scholarship.
Births announced in this issue include the following: a son, Jordan Lee, to Dennis and Brenda Riggs, Peabody; a daughter, Chelsea Janae, to Donita and Gary Turk, Baldwin City; a daughter, Madison Rae, to Jim and Pat Chamberland, Marion; and a son, Adam Gregory, to Greg and Darla Meysing, rural Canton.
