A brief ceremony was held Thursday at Marion Elementary School to open the new addition. Those attending included about 30 staff members and more than 300 enrolled students.
Five-year-old Torey Hett has been designated as the 1992 poster child for the state's Services for Children with Special Health Care Needs. He met with Gov. Joan Finney when she proclaimed Aug. 30 through Sept. 5 for Services for Children with Special Health Care Needs Week.
Burr Oak residents, Diane Richmond and Betty Sanders, organized an old-fashioned neighborhood ice cream social Saturday evening. Those attending were David and Charla Wheeler, Rod, Diane, Amber, and Erin Richmond, Jim and Donna Fruechting, Harvey and Betty Sanders, Carol Laue, Christine Laue, Gerry and Linda Harris, Bill and Feebie Holdeman, Caleb and Barbara Abbott, and Joe and Phyllis Ragole.
Earl and Frances Hett and their daughter Patsy Frazier of Wichita hosted a party Thursday honoring the birthday of his twin sisters, Eloise Propp and Elsie Winkley. Additional guests were the twins' husbands, Allen Propp and Charley Winkley.
Randy Collett, formerly of Marion, has been elected vice president of the Association of College and University Telecommunications Administrators. He is telecommunications manager at Central Missouri State University.
A large crowd turned out Saturday evening for the Tampa State Bank hog roast and dance.
John Popp, a clerk and carrier at Marion Post Office for the past 12 years, recently was recognized for superior achievement. He was presented a certificate of achievement and a $100 cash award.
