Kaylee Raine Miles, the first baby born at St. Luke Hospital in 1995, is the winner of the annual first baby contest sponsored by the Marion County Record advertisers. Sheldon and Karen Miles of rural Hillsboro are the parents of the 9-pound girl, who was born Jan. 14.

A 1,600-square-foot expansion to St. Luke Medical Clinic appears feasible and affordable, Marion County Hospital District No. 1 directors said Thursday at their regular monthly meeting.

Judy Christensen of Marion, a member of the National Society of Decorative Painters, has received a thank you note from the White House (signed by Hillary Clinton) for painting ornaments for the White House Christmas tree. Christensen painted five tin heart pocket ornaments.

Peabody-Burns USD has until December to repair the existing high school at Peabody, or build a new one, according to a state fire marshal's report. Marshal Ed Redmonds says the building's condition has worsened during the past four years. A bond election is scheduled Jan. 31 for the purpose of deciding to build a new building.

At the Jan. 11 program of the Valley United Methodist Women, Brett Sardou and Kim Kreutziger presented an interesting account of the 1994 Missionary Education Tour they took in June.
