Clover Cliff Ranch has been presented the "Take Pride in America" award by the Chase County Conservation District. This is the first time Chase County has made the award which is part of a national program recognizing landowners who are caring stewards of their property. Clover Cliff Ranch, owned by Jim and Joan Donahue, was purchased in 1987 from the Prather Estate.

Kay Tajchman was appointed to a vacant seat of the Marion Unified School District Board of Education at a special meeting Monday night. She was elected on the third vote of the board, after they previously split 3-3 between Tajchman and candidate Dan Holub. Board members said is was an agonizing decision between all four candidates, Tajchman, Holub, Glen Hett, and Bill Higgins. Tajchman fills the vacancy caused by the resignation of Wayne Thies.

Don and Vickie Kraus announce the engagement of their daughter, Melanie, to Jeremy Dunn of Wilmore, son of Roger and Jill Dunn of Coldwater. The couple will be married July 30 in Holy Family Catholic Church, Pilsen.

Eugene and Phyllis Enos and Charles and JoAnn Kjellin attended the Lewis High School basketball homecoming game Jan. 14 at Lewis. Their granddaughter, Jennifer Enos, was crowned Homecoming Queen. Jennifer, a senior at Lewis High School, is the daughter of Daryl and Patricia Enos.

Eileen Hett is Student of the Month at Marion High School. The senior is the daughter of Clifford and Evelyn Hett of rural Peabody. Eileen plans to pursue a business degree at Emporia State University.

Winners of the Marion Elementary School spelling bee were Dustin Sherbert, son of Danny Sherbert and Jerry and Luanne Shipman, and Camille Wessel, daughter of Mike and Judy Powers and Bill and Linda Wessel. They will represent the school Feb. 9 at the Marion County Spelling Bee.
