City Administrator Diane Hett reported to Marion City Commission Monday that the town's water treatment plant, while barely adequate, needs to be upgraded to keep up with increased demands that may normally be expected. She said the city is using more water, the city has an ample supply from Marion Reservoir, but the treatment plant is not keeping up with increased demands.
Gerald Henderson was offered a contract Monday as superintendent of Marion Unified School District. Henderson was offered a two-year contract at $68,000 per year.
Births announced this week are: Jack Raymond Wheatley, son of Paula and Jeff Wheatley of Wichita and grandson of Raymond and Frances Vinduska of Marion; and Bailey Katherine Robson, daughter of Kelly and Susan Robson of Marion.

The HRK Rowdees team took first place in the handicap division of the Marion City Women's Bowling Tournament completed this weekend at MarBowl Lanes. Team members are Anita Moore, Cynthia Barrett, Gloria Seifert, Sherie Moody, and April Birk. First place scratch went to the B&L Sharpening team. Its members are Patricia Kinning, Donna Funk, LaDonna Sherbert, Bunny Kaiser, and Michelle Foth. Gloria Seifert and Marcia Vogel place first in doubles, Rosalie Rudolph in singles, and Gloria Seifert in all events.
Three students from Centre High School, Ashton Kerbs, Maria Jirak and Danielle Steel, served as pages Jan. 3 at the statehouse in Topeka.
Clark Wildin and Josh Whitwell were elected Marion High School Queen and King of Courts. They were crowned Friday during the game against Sacred Heart. The Warriors defeated Sacred Heart, 64-58, with Justin Hett leading the scoring with 17.
