First District Rep. Pat Roberts spent three hours in Marion County Monday, attending a luncheon in Hillsboro and touring St. Luke Hospital and Living Center in Marion. Roberts was impressed with the facility and especially the wellness center. "For a county this size, this facility is outstanding," the congressman said.
Gerald Wiens, a 1969 graduate of Marion High School and the son of Mary Ann and the late Harold Wiens, has been named Kansas Conservation Educator of the Year for 1993. Wiens has been employed by the Wichita Audubon Society as director of the Chaplin Nature Center in Arkansas City since 1980.
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Mueller left Feb. 2 for Macau to visit their son Barry and family who live on Taipa Island. Barry is superintendent of the Macau Golf and Country Club located on Coloane Island.
Marion High School candidates for Queen of Courts are Renee Goodin, Allison Ford, and Terese Vinduska. King candidates are Adam Collett, Chris Helmer, and Kelly Bernhardt. Coronation ceremonies will be Friday at Half-time during the boys' basketball game against Chase County.
Marion and Centre elementary students participated in the Mothers Against Drunk Driving poster/essay contest sponsored by the Marion County Substance Abuse Committee. Poster winners at the county level from Centre were Maria Jirak, Danielle Steele, Terry Svitak, Andrea Stahlecker, Chuck Bina, Dawn Kohman, and Megan Luna. Marion essay students were Jamey Cooper, Audra Waner, and Heath Tajchman.
