The University of Kansas College of Liberal Arts and Sciences has recognized teachers for outstanding teaching selected by KU honor students and college scholars. Each student was asked to nominate two teachers who profoundly influenced their academic life. Those chosen included Bruce Rhodes, science teacher, and Grant Thierolf, history teacher, both from Marion and Robert E. Marshall, former teacher of music at Peabody High School.
Matt Kukuk has been selected student of the month by the Marion High School faculty. A junior, he is the son of Larry and Donna Kukuk of Marion.
Magdalen Dvorak, Agnes Bina, and Ruby Vinduska accompanied the Sunflower Citizens group from Tampa on a tour Thursday in Abilene. They visited the Eisenhower Museum and Jerry's Craft Shop, plus other shops of interest.
The bowling team sponsored by Marion Pharmacy won first place this past weekend in the 33rd annual Marion City Men's Handicap Bowling Tournament held at MarBowl Lanes in Marion. Al Wynn and Barry Mai won the doubles competition, Jim Rudolph took first place in singles, and Jim Rudolph was first in the all events category. Ron Kreutziger took the all events scratch honors with a score of 1791.
Adam Collett and Terese Vinduska were selected as Marion High School King and Queen of Courts during the Friday basketball games against Chase County.
"Beary Special Babies" born at St. Luke Hospital in February were Ethan Bernard Pontious and Shane Jackson Methvin.
