Hundreds of old tires from the Marion County Road and Bridge Department were chopped in quarters this past week by Mid-Continent Resource Recovery, Wichita. County employees Brad Young and Zach Vinduska stacked the tires on the circular chopper. Tires up to 20 inches wide were hauled away for re-cycling, while larger ones were quartered for disposal in Marion County Landfill. A government grant paid for the cost of tire disposal.

Kansas Department of Transportation announced that Glenn Phinney retired March 1 after nearly half a century of service. Phinney worked as a Professional Civil Engineer II in Marion where he was administrator of construction and maintenance activities for the area.

Linda Fellhoelter and Kurt Spachek announce their engagement and approaching marriage. A June 11 wedding is planned at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Wichita.

Todd Bevan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bevan of Lost Springs, was injured Thursday in a motorcycle-station wagon accident while on his way home from work at Beech in Wichita. He received a broken jaw, broken left arm, broken left leg, and burns to both legs when the gas in the motorcycle burst into flames.

In December, M/Sgt. Terri Lehmann, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Robinson of Florence, was named Senior NCO for the Quarter by her squadron. Since then, she has received the award as Senior NCO of the year for 1993. Lehmann, a graduate of Marion High School, is chief of the personnel employment section for the 22nd Mission Support Squadron at McConnell.

Velma Socolofsky and Hannah Kruse enjoyed a weekend visit from their grandson John Socolofsky and wife Jennifer, who are being transferred from London, England, to Bangkok, Thailand, by Exxon Oil Company for whom John works. John's parents, Lowell and Pat Socolofsky of Omaha, Neb., also were here.
