Marion County Treasurer Verden Harms announced his resignation Monday. It was effective Tuesday. Harms said later he simply wants to enjoy retirement. As any elected official, the position will be filled by vote of Republican precinct committee men and women.

A $100 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who are guilty of vandalism on the memorial gas lights in Central Park.

Florence Middle School students Morgan Hett, Angie Moore, and Bailey Skiles served as pages for Sen. Don Steffes March 8 and also visited Gov. Joan Finney

Jean Case and Lavonne Hannaford told about their trip through Russia at the March 7 meeting of 20th Century Club.

Two Marion High School players were named to the Cottonwood Valley League all-league team. Aaron Reiswig and Katrina Hancock, both juniors, were named to the second team.

Hillsboro Airport authorities have chosen Alfred E. Schroeder Field as the official airport name. Schroeder was declared missing in action while flying with the Navy in World War II.

The Florence Middle School eighth grade team of Reggie Conyers, Dominic Voelker, Tony Leeds, Nick Kraus, and Nathan Collett won the Cottonwood Valley Junior League Scholars' Bowl Thursday defeating Eureka 60-5 for the championship.

Chris and Sheri Webb of Olathe announce the birth of their first child, a daughter, on March 12 at the Olathe Medical Center. Jack Webb, Marion, is the baby's paternal grandfather.
