"Central Park Centennial" has been selected as the theme for Old Settlers' Day 1994, to be observed Sept. 24 in Marion. Marion Kiwanis Club announced the theme at Monday's meeting.

Steve Seiler, a graduate of Marion High School, was the senior enlisted man in charge of the casket bearers in the honor guard as President Richard M. Nixon was laid to rest in California. S/Sgt. Seiler is the son of Joyce Wood and stepson of Stan Wood, who formerly lived in Marion. They now reside in Arizona.

The engagement of Kimbra Remmers and Martin Kroupa is announced this week. The couple will be married July 2 at Holy Family Parish church in Pilsen.

The Florence Middle School eight grade Scholars' Bowl team went undefeated in pool play April 26 in Junction City, but were eliminated in the quarter-finals by the Washburn Rural #1 team. Team members are Nathan Collett, Nick Kraus, Reggie Conyers, and Tony Leeds.

Mike Soyez of Marion won first place in the upper division team firearms honors at Garden City Community College where he is majoring in criminal justice. He is the son of Bob and Brenda Soyez of Marion.

Ray Dakotah, who has traveled the United States for the past 12 years in covered wagons, usually during summer months, spent about a week in Marion County, camping first at Burns, and then near Marion at the K-256/U.S.-77 junction two miles east of town. He waited out the cold and rainy weather so his horses could rest.
