Marion County Commissioners this week approved the hiring of four sheriff's department reserves. They are Dan Kinning, Todd Simmons, Jessey Hiebert, and Garry Klose. Reserves will mostly patrol Marion Reservoir.
Stephanie McDuff, a junior at the University of Kansas, has joined the Marion County Record staff as a journalism intern. While in Marion, she is staying at the farm home of Vernon and Madelyn Vogel.
Among students who graduated this spring at Fort Hays State University were the following from Marion County: Angela Morgan of Burns, bachelor's degree in physical education; Marilyn Svoboda, Lincolnville, bachelor's degree in psychology; Angela Bina, Marion, bachelor's degree in physical education; and James Jirak, Tampa, bachelor's degree in agri-business.
Maudie Vinduska, a registered nurse on the staff at St. Luke Hospital, has been nominated for the statewide award, "Nursing: The Heart of Health Care."
Twenty-one members of Neo-Century Club, with their husbands, concluded the club year May 5 with a dinner at the Burns Café.
Marion High School senior Alesha Tajchman is student of the month. She is the daughter of Charles and Kay Tajchman of Marion. Alesha's plans for the future include attending Wichita State University, where she intends to major in business or a health-related field.
A genuine jukebox and antique parking meters highlight the casual theme of The Big Scoop, across from Central Park in downtown Marion. Manager Lori Tajchman and owner Brenda McGinness say the business has stayed busy during the first week, serving ice cream, hamburgers, and side orders.
Marion County Farm Bureau has named students who will receive the organization's scholarships this year. They are Shawn Markley of Marion High School and Nolan Frantz of Hillsboro High School.
