The city promotional video will be completed this month, community coordinator Diane Hett reports. About half the cost was paid by donations with the city paying the rest.
Trash containers built by Marion High School students have been installed along Main Street.
Girls from Brownie Troop #59 enjoyed an afternoon of fun when their leaders, Brenda Rhodes, Diane Richmond, and Jane O'Connor, took them to Newton. Troop members are first graders Kimber Hardey, Lauren Helmer, and Jaimee Miller; second graders Jessica Janzen, Jayde Hess, Erin Richmond, Laura Holt, Alycia Pontious, Casey Park, Erin Carr, and Erica Geis; and third graders Amy Park, Lena O'Connor, Adrienne Chamberland, and Jessica Carlson.
Marion High School athletes Scott Hannaford and Chad Buchholz participated this past week in the state golf meet. Though they were edged out of medal contention, Coach Doug Dick said both have an excellent chance to qualify again in 1998.
A few photographs and some glassware are all that remains of Jeff and Darla Gore's home southeast of Marion. The ranch-style home was left in ashes after it was destroyed by fire May 28.
Among the high school girls who are attending Girls' State being held this week on the campus of the University of Kansas in Lawrence are the following from this area: Jennifer Savage, Clark Wildin, Leah Arnhold, and Michelle Wessel.
Starting next week, Marion residents should find it easier to make an appointment to get their teeth cleaned. Dr. Jerry Vinduska will be joining his father Dr. Eugene Vinduska's dentistry practice in Marion on Monday. This addition will result in an expansion of office hours and allow them to serve more patients.
Marion High School graduate Katrina Hancock has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Bradley University. She will receive a full scholarship. Hancock attended Wichita State University for two years and was on the WSU volleyball team.
