Rural America faces an uphill battle against increasing taxes and government regulations, First District Congressman Pat Roberts said Thursday .

Twenty-six youths and adults from Holy Family Parish of Marion County attended World Youth Day in Denver, Colo. Those attending were Patty Cyr, Pam Cyr, Ryan Bina, Christina Cooper, Bryan Bombardier, Dominic Voelker, Michele Davis, Lisa Zogelman, Nikki Bina, Meggan Silhan, Heather Kohman, Melissa Vinduska, Fred Silhan, Ramie Bina, Angie Vinduska, Sara Vinduska, Aaron Vinduska, James Jirak, Jaime Steiner, Rita Stuchlik, and Samantha Gomez. Adult leaders were Judy Wegerer, Scott Zogelman, Terry Vinduska, Kathy Silhan, and Rosemary Neuwirth. Pope John Paul II celebrated Mass and spoke with close to 500,000 who attended.

Members of the Cottonwood Valley League National Division Championship team, which ended its season 31-2 are John Ottensmeier, Adam Turner, Jim Helmer, Dalton Freeman, Kirk Buckner, Justin Hett, Curtis Gore, Josh Tajchman, Roger Weathersbee, Kelen Bombardier, Scott Hannaford, David Darrow, Cole Freeman, and Keith Goentzel. Coaches were Greg Regier, Roger Hannaford III, and Jim Darrow.
